Is this world – and are we – significant? That’s the underlying question asked in the new documentary movie, The Principle. According to The Copernican Principle, named after Nicolaus Copernicus (1473 – 1543), our world is not in a central position or specially favored place in the universe. Contrary to the reigning beliefs of his day, Copernicus came up with this theory based on the data available to him at the time.

This principle has been widely accepted by many of today’s Cosmologists. But what if The Principle is wrong. What if indeed our world does hold a significant place in the universe? After all, as one scholar reminds us in the film, no matter how far we look out into the universe there is nowhere like the world we live on.
